Nui Chung Proposed Cultural and Historical Site
Management history Nui Chung is situated within Dai Hue Forest Enterprise and is managed as a cultural and historical site by the forest enterprise management board (Phan Xuan Dieu, Director of Dai Hue Forest Enterprise in litt. 2003). Nui Chung is not listed on any government decision regarding the national protected areas system (MARD 1997). However, it is included on a list of Special-use Forests to be established by the year 2010, prepared by the FPD of MARD, as a 600 ha cultural and historical site (FPD 2003); this list has not yet been approved by the government. Topography and hydrology No information. Biodiversity values The vegetation at the site is dominated by plantation forest (Vu Van Dung verbally 2000). Conservation issues No information. Other documented values Nui Chung proposed cultural and historical site protects the landscape around Ho Chi Minh's native village in Kim Lien commune, Nam Dan district. The site, consequently, has high cultural, historical and tourism values, and receives tens of thousands of domestic tourists annually. Related projects No information. Eligibility against VCF criteria The site is ineligible for VCF support because it does not meet the criteria for supporting forest biodiversity of international importance. In addition, the site is a cultural and historical site, and it is not under appropriate conservation management.
